June General Membership Meeting

August General Membership Meeting
The San Antonio Masonry Contractors Association will hold its monthly general membership meeting at 12 p.m. Wednesday, June 24 at Pappadeaux restaurant, 76 NE Loop 410. The cost of lunch is $30 per person. The guest speaker is Roy Schauffele (Division 7 Solutions) and will discuss the new concerns about insulation in walls. 2015 Golden Trowel Awards Banquet

2015 Golden Trowel AwardsOn June 11, the San Antonio Masonry Contractors Association (SAMCA) hosted the 2015 Golden Trowel Awards at the Club at Sonterra with an attendance of 119. The event was attended by SAMCA members, architects, and general contractors.

Sue Ann Pemberton (Mainstreet Architects) presented the winning projects this year. Twelve projects were honored for the outstanding design of Architects, the craftsmanship of the SAMCA member Masonry Contractors, the superior product support of the SAMCA member Suppliers, and the superior project management of the General Contractors. The masonry contractor’s foreman of each winning project received a plaque for outstanding performance.

In addition, SAMCA recognized Pfluger Architects, as the Patron of Masonry – Architect of the Year because of their predominate use of masonry in their designs. Joeris General Contractors was honored as the Patron of Masonry – General Contractor of the Year because of prompt pay, fair contracts, expert scheduling and field operations. An award was given to Headwaters Construction Materials, a SAMCA associate member, the Patron of Masonry – Outstanding Associate Member. This award recognizes a SAMCA member who has supported the organization and industry through its participation and financial support. These are members who show outstanding support of SAMCA.

SAMCA appreciates the five judges from Austin who judged the 27 projects in this year’s competition: Mac Ragsdale (Architecture Plus – Austin, TX); Raymundo Vela, Jr. (Barnes Gromatzky Kosarek Architects – Austin, TX); Justin Gesch (Antenora Architects – Austin, TX); Nick Page (Nick’s Bricks – Liberty Hill, TX); and Brad Clay (Quality Brickworks – Robinson, TX).

The association would like to express its gratitude to Chris McBirnie at Christopher Stuart Cast Stone for making and providing the Alamo replica cast stone Golden Trowel Awards which were presented to the masonry contractors and architects. 12th Annual Fishing Tournament Approaching

Screen Shot 2016-05-11 at 6.03.24 PMThe San Antonio Masonry Contractors Association will host its 12th Annual Fishing Tournament on Saturday, July 18 at Redfish Bay Boat House in Aransas Pass. The cost of $300 per boat (maximum four anglers per boat) includes dinner on Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18, and entry fees. For anyone who would like to attend the event and eat dinner on both Friday and Saturday, but does not want to fish, the cost is $25, and children are free.

Prizes will be awarded to the Open Class and the Guided Class teams. The mandatory check-in will take place Friday, July 17 at the Redfish Bay Boat House. The tournament will begin at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 18. The available sponsorship levels are: Redfish – $1,000; Trout $500; and Flounder $200. All sponsor’s names will be listed on a tournament banner. To obtain further information, call Rick Stone (210) 213-1378, or Debbie Mason (830) 606-5556.
